94: Love and Responsibility

Diary entry dated 16th August 2023:

After having a discussion with a friend this evening about responsibilities in spiritual life, I reflected that there is a common misconception that those who practise spiritual life are avoiding or giving up their responsibilities, especially those who live in the temple.

In reality, all devotees, whether they are temple residents or live in the outside world, have responsibilities and challenges, but the nature of those may differ. Every kind of lifestyle comes with its own set of responsibilities and challenges.

With regards to practising devotees (like myself), our responsibilities tend to arise from a sense of duty.

The pure devotees in the spiritual world also have responsibilities, but those responsibilities arise from their pure love for Kṛṣṇa. For example, due to her love for Him, Mother Yaśodā considers it her responsibility to care for and maintain Kṛṣṇa, even though He is actually the Supreme Lord and the maintainer of all living entities.
